Gasifiers to be commissioned in crematoria next week

SYSTEMATIC: An official registers grievance petitions at the ‘makkalai thedi’ meeting held at Kolathur on Saturday.
CHENNAI: The new gasifiers installed at the crematoria in Otteri and Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar would be commissioned next week, Mayor M. Subramanian said on Saturday.
At the ‘Makkalai thedi’ grievance redress meeting at Kolathur, Mr. Subramanian said the gasifiers cost about Rs. 50 lakh each. Two more gasifiers at GKM colony and on MTH Road would be commissioned next month.
Officials from government agencies including the Chennai Corporation, Metrowater, the Revenue Department and the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board were present at the programme. They received 836 petitions on a range of subjects including issue of trade licences and birth and death certificates. About 125 petitions were related to improvement of civic amenities and services.
According to a release , 430 grievance petitions were acted upon at once.
Based on requests from children of Everwin School in Kolathur, speed-breakers were constructed on the Kolathur Main Road. About Rs. 3.5 lakh was collected as property tax.
The Mayor said that stormwater drains had been laid for a length of 2.4 km in Kolathur Poompuhar Nagar at the cost of Rs. 1.3 crore. Another 4.1 km of drains would be constructed at the cost of Rs. 3.3 crore.
