TDP sore over Chautala’s remark

K. Yerran Naidu

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party is irked by the statement of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) president Om Prakash Chautala that the United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) is distancing itself from the Samajwadi Party.

The party leaders feel that Samajwadi Party, with its own compulsions, would have formally left the UNPA in a couple of days, once the Left withdraws support to the Manmohan Singh government. “Mr. Chautala should have waited a couple of days and let the SP leadership formally announce its intentions,” a senior leader aired his view. The TDP is, no doubt, upset over the support openly extended by the SP to the nuclear deal less than a day after the UNPA sought a “national debate” on it. “Moreover, how can Mr. Yadav support the Congress when the UNPA, which he chairs, has been formed as an anti-UPA and anti-NDA platform?” K. Yerran Naidu, leader of the Telugu Desam’s Parliamentary Party, asked.

Naidu on nuclear pact

Kakinada Staff Reporter writes: TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu said, he agreed with the view of Left parties that the government was trying to push through the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal without studying its consequences. He reiterated the need for a thorough nationwide debate, as any hasty decision could land the country in trouble.
