Huge stocks of dal, fertilizer unearthed

VINUKONDA: Six joint task teams comprising personnel from revenue, legal & meteorology, police, agriculture and civil supplies departments swooped on 52 godowns in Vinukonda on Saturday morning and unearthed huge stocks of raw dal and fertilizers being hoarded above the permissible limits.
Joint Collector Kantilal Dande, who instructed the raids following a tip-off, told The Hindu that preliminary reports suggest that the value of stocks might be about Rs.1.5 crore.
The officials were verifying the stock position and tallying it with the permissible limits when reports last came in.
Official sources said that unidentified callers informed that the stocks were being piled up at 37 godowns at the S.P.G Complex on the Old 5/2 Road in the town on Friday. The Joint Collector immediately formed six teams and launched the operation.
