Grandmother, father refuse to take custody of child Bangalore: The fate of three-year-old Numra, who lost her mother Ayesha in an accident at Cubbon Park here on July 30, remains uncertain as both her father and maternal grandmother have refused to make a legal commitment on taking custody of the child. Speaking to The Hindu, H.C. Chidanand, Deputy Director, Women and Child Welfare, said that Ayesha’s mother had refused to take custody of the child, as she wanted to file a complaint against Rajesh, who was accompanying her at the time of the accident, for kidnapping Ayesha. “She wants the Government to look after the child,” he said. Numra’s father Razaq, who had earlier applied for custody, started dithering when he was asked to sign a bond, stating he would take full responsibility of the child and look after her well. “Razaq’s marriage to Ayesha was his second, and he is not able to look after his first wife and children properly. Hence, there is no guarantee that he will take care of Numra,” Mr. Murthy pointed out. Haleema, superintendent of the government-run Shishu Mandir where Numra is being cared for since she lost her mother, said: “The child is being looked after well, but she asks for her mother repeatedly. She will be in our custody till a decision is taken about her future.”
