Paloli Mohammed Kutty KOCHI: The State government is considering a proposal to set up modern waste treatment facilities in all districts, Local Administration Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty has said. He told presspersons here on Sunday that a proposal that came up was that of a plant capable of processing everything except steel. Other proposals were also under consideration. The Minister said each district would need at least one plant. About 70 per cent of the waste generated in cities was non-biodegradable and a permanent system for treating them was necessary. The Kochi Corporation will look for alternative sites as Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd. trade unions have opposed dumping of waste on its Ambalamedu site after July 13. This was decided at a meeting convened by the Minister. Briefing presspersons, Mr. Mohammad Kutty said FACT required the land for expansion programmes. The Corporation would look for alternative sites.
