PUDUKOTTAI: Sahithya Akademi has sanctioned a monograph on the Late Gandarvan, a writer from Pudukottai in honour of his contribution to the growth and development of Tamil literature. The monograph will be authored by Muthu Nilavan of Pudukottai.

Stating this at a literary function here on Saturday, N. Thangam Moorthy, who has been nominated member of the Akademi’s Tamil Advisory Board, said that the Akademi would also celebrate the centenary of the release of a popular book ‘Oru Paisa Tamizhan’ authored by Ayodhydasan. The celebrations would be held shortly at Pudukottai. The release of the book a century ago revolutionised Tamil literature, he said. The function, got up by the Ayir Literary Forum, marked the release of two books ‘Ilakkiya Ilakkana Purithal’ and ‘Meyyunarvu’ penned by A. Selvarasu and Sembai Muruganandam respectively. A faculty from Alagappa University, Karaikudi S. Subbiah released the books.

Introducing the books, Ku. Dayanidhi and R. Pughazhendi traced the rich content of literary values and high order of Tamil grammar in the books.

Speakers also felicitated Mr. Moorthy on his nomination as member of the Sahitya Akademi Advisory Board. The Principal of J. J. College of Arts and Science J. Parasuraman said that the nomination was an honour to Tamil writers in general and Pudukottai in particular.

Poets Rasi Pannerselvan, R. Thanikodi, M. Pazhaniappan and Brahadeeswaran were among those who spoke.
