Woman ends life at mother’s grave
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: A 23-year-old student died of burns near her mother’s grave at the Christian cemetery on Hosur Road on Saturday.
Eyewitnesses saw Janaki, a student of APS Evening College in Narasimharaja Colony, praying at the spot where her mother was buried in January.
Later, the woman set herself afire, and by the time they learnt about it and brought water to save her, Janaki had died.
The police found a two-litre bottle with some kerosene in it. She was identified by her college identity card and bus pass.
The police then called her father Kamal Kannan, a retired employee of the District Cooperative Society, staying at Hoskerehalli. The girl’s older sister told the police that Janaki left home in the morning saying she was going to Chamarajpet, where she was working as receptionist in an office.
