Belguam: Minister for Water Resources Basavaraj Bommai’s remark in connection with the attack on S.S. Khanagavi, Chief Engineer of Irrigation, North Zone, surprised many here on Sunday. Addressing the agitating engineers and staff of the Irrigation Department, he said the incident would not have happened “if Mr. Khanagavi had compromised”. Though he described the incident as a warning to the Government that such acts by elected representatives would send a wrong signal to the people, he did not elaborate how Mr. Khanagavi should have compromised. However, when asked to elaborate, he said: “The Irrigation Department is a big department and MLAs keep seeking information which could be given to them. I only meant this,” he said.
