PUDUCHERRY: The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation here has introduced a procedure for distributing temporary and permanent identity cards to factory workers. Since July 1, the ESIC has been distributing the cards directly to the employees instead of routing them through the employers, Assistant Director D. Yogananda Rao said in a release. On receipt of declaration forms from the establishments, the Branch Manager will directly send the cards to the beneficiaries. As for new establishments, the Branch Manager will visit the factories to collect the forms from the employees and issue temporary cards. For those who are employed for three months, permanent identity cards will be sent to their residential address. The forms should be submitted within 10 days of the person joining the establishment. The earlier system of the employers issuing the cards caused undue delay in the distribution, hence the new procedure, he said.
