BERHAMPUR: Two firing incidents in different parts of Ganjam district and blast of hidden crude bombs in the city during last 24 hours hints at the rise of criminal activity in the district. Early in the morning on Sunday two rag pickers involved in collection of polythene bags from the garbage near Dhoba canal near Lochapada were injured in the explosion of some crude bombs hidden at the spot by some miscreants. The victims were Chandra Majhi and Jugunu Bira. Jugunu was seriously injured with a hole caused by splinters on his neck. The surgeons at the MKCG medical college hospital had to perform an emergency operation on his trachea to save him. He is still fighting for life. But Chandra received fewer injuries as most of the impact was faced by Jugunu. According to Chandra, who underwent treatment at the city hospital, the blast occurred when they stepped on the bombs hidden in the garbage. . Vendor shot deadIn another incident Somnath Biswal (38) of Aska Nuagaon was shot dead near Charimaili square on Saturday evening. Biswal was a liquor vendor and tussle over liquor marketing is suspected to be reason behind the murder feels Dilip Kumar Tripathy, the Inspector in charge of the Aska police station. It was a planned murder in which professional criminals may have been used. . In another incident a group of criminals oepend fire at Shankar Prasad Mishra, an advocate of on Saturday night. When he opened the door, they fired eight rounds at him and other members of his family. Only Mishra was injured in the incident.
