Neyveli Book fair opens

NEYVELI: Justice A. Kulasekaran, Judge of Madras High Court, inaugurated the 11th edition of the Neyveli Book Fair organised under the aegis of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation here on Saturday.
The Judge said books were reflections of society, because they recorded the growth and development as well as the shortcomings of any particular age.
Referring to the observations of certain speakers that they had incurred losses while organising book fairs, he said the fairs are not being run on a profit motive.
Justice Kulasekaran hailed the NLC for its harmonious industrial relations.
NLC Chairman incharge J.N. Prasannakumar said books were to be read and the information contained in it, practiced. For imbibing good character, good books ought to be read. By inculcating reading habit among employees and people in neighbourhood through the book fairs, the NLC was also fulfilling its corporate social responsibility, he said.
Writer Aru. Ramanathan of Thanjavur and Prodigy Publishers were honoured on the occasion. A book “Therinthathum Theriyathathum” (Known and Unknown), authored by M.N. Rajan and published by Uma Pathipagam, was released.
The fair will be open to public from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays till July 14.
