Rs. 2 crore for improving amenities in 4 town panchayats

CUDDALORE: Health Minister M.R.K.Panneerselvam has said that Rs. 2 crore has been earmarked for providing basic amenities to four town panchayats in Cuddalore district under the Anaithu Town Panchayat Anna Marumalarchi Thittam.

Inaugurating the scheme on Saturday at Srimushnam, 90 km from here, he said already the works were completed in four town panchayats of Killai, Parangipettai, Lalpettai and Melpattampakkam.

The town panchayats to be taken up now were Srimushnam, Kattumannarkoil, Gangaikondan and Mangalampettai. The Minister said after widening the Srimushnam—Vriddhachalam road, the traffic was moving unhindered.

He said the government was implementing many schemes for improving the standard of living of the poor. The government hospitals had been provided with necessary facilities and the vacant medical posts were filled.

He further said Tamil Nadu had set a precedent in the country in implementing a host of welfare schemes for women. Later, the Minister gave away 947 free colour television sets at Pethanaickenkuppam and 644 sets at Keezhpathi.

The Minister said the Primary Health Centre at Keezhpathi would soon be elevated as a 30-bed hospital.

School buildings opened

Later, he inaugurated the additional blocks constructed at the cost of Rs. 12 lakh in the middle school at Gunamangalam. Already 100 primary schools in Cuddalore district had been upgraded as high schools, he said.

District Collector Rajendra Ratnoo, Srimushnam Town Panchayat Chairperson Anandhi, Keezhpathi Panchayat President N.Jayaraman and Tahsildar Shanmugham accompanied the Minister.
