Airline casual workers up in arms

Kozhikode: As part of a nation-wide strike called by the airline casual workers’ unions, raising various demands, the Airline Casual Workers Union (ACWU) (CITU) will stage protests from July 14 at the Karipur airport here, said general secretary V. Prabhakaran in a release here.

Their demands include making casual employees with more than ten years of experience permanent, timely revision of salary and providing working tools to casual employees besides ensuring them work round the year.

As an initial step, the employees will attend work from July 14 to 18 sporting badges showing various demands.

A dharna will be held at all the airports on July 25 and pamphlets will be distributed among the employees and the public on July 26.

The protest will be capped by casual employees taking out a march to the office of the Union Aviation Minister on August 5.
