PUDUCHERRY: The government has convened a meeting of private medical and engineering colleges to discuss the seat-sharing for admission to professional courses, on Monday. According to official sources, the meeting would decide on the number of seats to be allotted under the government quota in the private medical and engineering institutions. The Chief Minister, along with the Education and Health Ministers, would hold talks with the heads of the institutions. Already, the Centralised Admission Committee had completed the process of receiving applications from students. Counselling for admission to engineering and medical courses would begin only after a decision on the percentage of seat-sharing between the government and private institutions was arrived at, official sources said. In the last few years, the allocation of seats under government quota was different in each institution. Meanwhile, an official source said there was no rigidity in seat-sharing and the government would take into consideration the allocation in the last two years and arrive at a final figure during the meeting.
