THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Bharathiya Janatha Party (BJP) State secretary A.G. Unnikrishnan has criticised Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Veliyam Bharghavan’s “wild surmises” about the reasons for the ongoing agitation in the State for the withdrawal of standard VII social sciences textbook. Addressing a Yuva Morcha demonstration before the Secretariat here on Sunday, Mr. Unnikrishnan said that Mr. Bharghavan could not defend the ‘controversial portions’ in the textbook by making a wild allegation that foreign powers were behind the agitation against the textbook. He said the communists, wherever they had come to power, had tried their hands at distorting history to suit their interests.
