Hyderabadi set to enter Guinness Book

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: “The 250th word is Video, right?” he asked the crowd of IIT aspirants who surrounded him and was greeted by a wild response with cat cries and loud claps reverberating in every corner of the room.

Some students in their excitement began thumping the desks greeting T. R. Manjunath, an Assistant Manager at State Bank of Mysore after he set a new world record for recalling 250 random objects in their serial order, here on Sunday.

The effort has been notified to Guinness Book of World Records authorities and necessary documentation was being taken up as per their instructions, he said.

Motivation

A visibly excited Mr. Manjunath who hails from a rural background dedicated the record to his father Mr. T. Ramaiah whom he described as a constant source of support and motivation.

Speaking to the media Mr. Manjunath described his achievement as fantastic profusely thanking the management of Sri Chaitanya educational institutions for their support in organising the event at their campus.

“Remembering 250 objects is not an easy joke,” he remarked adding that his effort required a lot of hard work, concentration, meditation besides memory tips like mind-mapping and reading books on memory.

He said he never dreamt of entering into annals of the Guinness Book during his lifetime and was glad he could break the existing record of 225 words.

Centre of attention

Blindfolded, he sat on a chair fixated on memorising the 250 object names that students of the college suggested.

The words ranging from ‘burette’ to ‘tabala’ were all dutifully digested by Manjunath, who was the centre of all attention, oblivious to camera flashes and the incessant ringing of mobile phones.

There were tense moments too when he paused to recall some names and much to the relief of the audience, he never faltered to achieve the new record.

He promises to do something “surprising and magnificent” on August 8 as the calendar would read 08.08.08 that day.

What is it, we enquire and he departs saying, ‘I do not want to kill the suspense’ promising to get in touch with the media later.
