India beats Gouveia Select
New Delhi: India began its training-cum-exposure trip of Portugal with a 2-0 victory over Gouveia Select at the mountain city of Gouveia.
Bob Houghton’s charges scored once in each half in their first friendly match of the 12-day tour, on Saturday.
India dominated the first half and opened scoring in the 31st minute through playmaker Climax Lawrence who had a brilliant day, setting up for his forwards while also finding the net himself.
Striker Sunil Chhetri also found the net in the 42nd minute only to be ruled offside by the referee. In the second half, Gouveia regrouped and pressed for an equaliser but Tarif Ahmed’s 85th minute goal took the match beyond the host’s reach. — PTI
