Another podium finish for Karun

IN ELITE COMPANY: Karun Chandhok (centre) with Sachin Tendulkar and Vijay Mallya (left) after his third place finish.

Silverstone: Karun Chandhok of iSport International came up with a podium finish after starting 10th on the grid in the GP2 feature race here on Saturday.

This was Karun’s second podium finish of the year, the first one coming in the GP2 Asia Series in Dubai in January.

“That was my best race ever in GP2,” said the 24-year-old Karun, who had won a GP2 race at Spa-Francorchamps last year.

Karun gained one position at the start when Mike Conway made a poor start, forcing the Indian to swerve around his stranded car. He passed five drivers, including GP2 Asia champion Romain Grosjean, before overtaking teammate Brune Senna during a pit stop.

Giorgio Pantano of Racing Engineering took the top spot while Barwa International Campos Team’s Lucas di Grassi was second. — PTI
