NEW DELHI: Keeping in view the rising crime graph in the Capital and the insensitive attitude shown towards the poor at police stations in the city, former Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Vijay Goel organised a people-police court at Jehangirpuri here on Sunday.

The court saw complaints being received from hundreds of people and brought to light alarming facts regarding the involvement of children aged between 10 and 15 years in different type of crimes.

Mr. Goel said as the law was liberal with young children several gangs had become active and were forcing children to commit crimes. He said he would raise this serious issue to ensure that children are deterred from taking to crime.

The court also received a large number of complaints regarding different type of crimes such as chain snatching, theft, robbery and eve-teasing.

According to Mr. Goel, the general complaint from people was that nobody listened to their complaints at police stations and that criminals were released before them and the complainants were harassed and charged with different type of false cases. He said he would meet the Delhi Police Commissioner with these complaints and try to get them solved.

“With 364 murders, 462 robberies, 553 rapes, 901 chain snatchings and 1,729 cases of car theft being reported in 2007, Delhi has become the crime capital of the country. If the police register every complaint, this figure would have been much higher.”

Mr. Goel informed that he would organise such police-people courts in other parts of the city also so that people can come forward with their complaints and he would try to get them resolved.
