Kin of missing fishermen get Rs. 1 lakh each

NAGAPATTINAM: A compensation of Rs.1 lakh each was paid from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund on Saturday to the families of seven fishermen of Akkaraipettai coastal village who are missing.
Minister for Dairy Development U.Mathivanan handed over the cheque for Rs. 1 lakh to the families of the seven missing fishermen in the presence of M.Jayaraman, Collector, V. Marimuthu, MLA of Nagapattinam, and others.
The Collector said that four fishermen _Shenbagam, Arumugam, Satheesh and Manivannan _ of Akkaraipettai, who ventured into the sea on October 16 last year, and Vaithiyalingam, Kaliyaperumal and Ramayan, also of Akkaraipettai who went for fishing last week (June 27) did not return to the shore.
All efforts to trace them did not yield fruitful results.
The Collector pointed out that the district administration recommended to the Government for paying compensation to these families.
