30 per cent reservation sought for Christians

“They are the worst affected as they could not get seats in higher education”


Nagercoil: The former Speaker and State organising secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munettra Kazaghm, P.H. Pandian, flagged of a two-wheeler rally at Kanyakumari on Sunday to urge the Government to allot 30 per cent reservation for Christians in education as well as employment.

He said that Backward Class and Most Backward Class students belonging to the Christian community were the worst affected as they could not get seats in higher education, owing to the 3.5 per cent reservation instead of 30 per cent reservation which had already been allotted by the former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran. The rally was organised from Kanyakumari to Kaliyakkavilai to create an awareness among the Christians of their reservation rights .

Similarly, the State deputy secretary of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazagham, Austin, flagged off a vehicle campaign in Nagercoil to demand the Government to allot 30 per cent reservation for Christians in employment and education.

The DMDK cadres also organised a signature campaign to implement 30 per cent reservation on or before July 11.
