Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: At least five persons, including women and children, were injured when an armed gang attacked a house at Thittamangalam, near Kannanmoola, here on Sunday. The police said the suspects, hailing from Chennilode colony, were retaliating against the residents for daring to bring a case of sexual harassment to the notice of law enforcers. They ransacked the house and destroyed household property, including study material used by children. Last year, the suspects had sexually-harassed some women participating in a local temple festival. The police arrested them on the basis of a complaint given by the temple management. After being released on bail, the gang seriously injured Vijayan, one of the temple committee members. On Sunday, they attacked his house again. The police named Saju, Pinky and Siby as the main suspects in the case. Local residents overpowered one of the gang members and handed him over to the police. The police recovered the machetes used by the gang and also the autorickshaw in which they arrived at the spot. The police posted a picket there to prevent any further violence.
