Giant wheel gets stuck after

tyre-burst

BANGALORE: There was commotion for a while when a giant wheel got jammed in J.P. Nagar Police limits on Sunday.

However, the incident did not cause any injury or casualty to anyone.

The wheel was erected at a consumer fair in Puttenahalli a month ago.

There was a heavy crowd at the fair as it was a Sunday. As one of the tyres moving the wheel burst, the giant wheel got stuck. As many as 25 persons, including children, were trapped. Some of them were right on top of the wheel, which was 60-ft above the ground.

Frightened people on the giant wheel started to make phone calls to their relatives. The organisers of the fair called the Fire and Emergency Services personnel who came to the spot with nine fire tenders.

The rescue team had a hard task at hand as the giant wheel was found to be wobbling. The team then tied the wheel from different ends to make the wheel static. The firemen climbed up the giant wheel using rope and aluminium ladders and brought down each of the occupants.

“It was a challenging task. We could successfully do it in two hours,” said District Fire Officer K. Narayanswamy.

Second incident

The malfunction of the giant wheel comes a few days after the tragic incident reported in Bal Bhavan on June 30. Ayesha (25) fell off an amusement device, Tora-Tora, after her five-year-old daughter slipped from it. While Ayesha died of head injuries, her daughter was caught by a bystander.
