Set for inauguration: The Combined Court building in Tambaram.
TAMBARAM: The Combined Court building at Tambaram would be dedicated on Wednesday.
The Rs.2.84 crore project, work on which began in April 2007, would put an end to problems faced by litigants, advocates and judges at the courts of Judicial Magistrate in East Tambaram and District Munsif in West Tambaram functioning out of cramped, rented premises.
In 2004, a foundation stone-laying function for the complex was held, but there was no progress. In November 2006, the Madras High Court directed the State Government to build the complex within 15 months. There would be three court halls, in addition to a mediation centre and rooms for Bar Association and staff. The three-storey complex has a built-up area of 2,540 square metres. Chief Justice of the Madras High Court A.K.Ganguly would be inaugurating the complex. PWD Minister Durai Murugan and Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T.R.Baalu are scheduled to participate in the function.
