Triple crown for Nikhat Banu

HYDERABAD: Nikhat Banu of Gujarati Seva Mandal celebrated her selection to represent India in the South Asian Junior championship in style with a triple crown in the St. Paul’s Table Tennis Academy State-ranking championship at St. Paul’s High School (Hyderguda) here on Sunday.

Fourth-seeded Nikhat first clinched the women’s singles title, then the youth girls’ title and finally the junior girls’ title.

The results: Men’s singles: Final: G. Jitendra bt Krishna Kiriti 6-11, 11-3, 8-11, 15-13, 11-5, 11-6. Semifinals: Krishna bt T. Arundhar 9-11, 11-4, 8-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-4; Jitendra bt Umesh Kumar 13-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-7.

Youth boys: Final: G. Vishal Reddy bt Gautham Gampa 11-6, 11-9, 4-11, 11-8, 11-5. Semifinals: Gautham bt P. Vighnay Reddy 4-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9, 11-7; Vishal bt A.V. Anish 6-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-7, 8-11, 11-6.

Junior boys: Final: Harsh Atul Shah bt T. Sai Praneeth 11-8, 8-11, 15-17, 11-5, 11-3, 11-8. Semifinals: Harsh Atul Shah bt Gautam Krishna 11-7, 11-3, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9; Sai bt Hannan Khan 11-6, 11-8, 11-9, 11-3.
