KOLLAM: Cashew workers under the banner of the CITU-affiliated Kerala Cashew Workers Centre (KCWC) will strike work and march to the Provident Fund (PF) Commissioner’s office in Thiruvananthapuram on July 9 to register their protest against the alleged anti-labourer stand of the providrnt fund office. Wage deductionAt a press conference here on Monday, KCWC president J. Mercykutty and general secretary E. Kasim said that while 12 per cent of the wages of cashew workers was being deducted as PF contribution, an equal contribution from the employer was not being made. In spite of this, the PF officers concerned are not taking any action against the erring employers. ‘Office taking sides’Ms. Mercykutty said that the apathy of the PF office to the development is tantamount to taking sides with those who deny the cashew workers their statutory benefits. Other demands to be raised by the workers during the protest march are to rectify the PF pension shortcomings and drop moves to deduct PF contribution from the bonus and other allowances of the workers. The march will begin at 10 a.m. from PMG Junction. The dharna in front of the PF Commissioner’s office will be inaugurated by State president of the CITU K.N. Raveendranath.
