Former students relive college days

Staff Reporter

MALAPPURAM: The global alumni meet held at Pocker Sahib Memorial Orphanage (PSMO) College at Tirurangadi on Sunday turned out literally to be a convergence of old students from different countries and States.

Hundreds of PSMO alumni had come down for the ‘global meet’ from the Middle-East countries and Indian cities.

A large group of them from the UAE had come down for the meet on an exclusive flight, making campus history as well as news for the local media.

The PSMO campus last week had welcomed them with unprecedented fanfare. Inaugurating the global alumni meet, Inspector General of Police B. Sandhya called upon those who have a humanistic perspective to take up teaching. “We need teachers with a humanistic perspective,” she said.

K.T. Jaleel, MLA, an alumnus of the college, inaugurated the session in which the old students shared their memories of their alma mater.

Among them were Principals of major colleges in Malabar, including Farook College, Feroke; MES College, Mambad; MEASS College, Areekode, and MES Keveeyam College, Valanchery. Several local political leaders, including former KPCC secretary K.P. Abdul Majeed and Muslim Youth League district president N. Shamsuddeen addressed the gathering.

PSMO Alumni Association president Haneefa Venniyoor presided over the meeting. Major K. Ibrane, PSMO Principal, welcomed the gathering.

Awards instituted by the alumni for meritorious students were given away on the occasion. The alumni association also decided to increase the number of scholarships it offered to students from economically weaker sections.
