Thousands visit Red Ribbon Express

PALAKKAD: Thousands of people visited the Red Ribbon Express, a seven-coach train to spread awareness of HIV\AIDS, at the Shoranur Railway Station. The train arrived at Shoranur on Sunday.

Students from a number of schools lined up at the railway station to visit the exhibition on Monday. The train has specially designed coaches displaying educational material on HIV\AIDS, counselling-cum-medical service van, conference hall etc. The Red Ribbon Express Project, conceptualised by Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, is being implemented by the National AIDS Control Organisation as a multi-sectoral project to spread awareness of HIV\AIDS.

The train will traverse over 9,000 km. during the year, covering about 180 districts\halt stations and hold programmes and activities in 43,2000 villages. The programme is being implemented through Nehru Yuvak Kendra and other voluntary organisations.

The dignitaries who visited the exhibition at Shoranur railway station included Jose Baby, Deputy Speaker of Kerala Assembly; C.P. Mohammed, MLA; district panchayat president Subida Ishaq; and Arogya Kerala regional programme manager T.K. Kuttamani.

The train left Shoranur on Monday night.
