27 more die as heavy rains lash U.P.

Lucknow: At least 27 people perished in heavy rains lashing large parts of Uttar Pradesh since Sunday evening, pushing the death count in the state this monsoon season to 73.

Heavy downpours toppled mud houses, flooded low-lying area, uprooted trees and snapped communication links at many places in the state.

All major rivers, fed by monsoon rains, were in spate as district administrations stepped up efforts to provide relief to the marooned people.
