Expedite bridge work

People are frustrated over the slow pace of construction of the rail over-bridge near the new bus stand in Tuticorin. The bridge construction was started in 2002.

Till date, the construction is not complete and only a few pillars have been erected. The main purpose of the over-bridge is to ease traffic congestion near the new bus stand.

But incidentally, there are scenes of traffic chaos every day in the area because most part of the road has been blocked for this construction purpose. I request authorities to look into the matter.

P. Senthil Saravana Durai,

Vazhavallan, Tuticorin district.

Harmful practice

In the course of certain rituals, a practice exists wherein ripe bananas are tossed up in the air. The fruits are scattered on the road. Ultimately they come under the wheels of speeding vehicles. Unwary pedestrians who step on the pulp skid and suffer injuries. People must refrain from such harmful customs.

Vellaisamy Murugan,

Tuticorin.

Beneficial scheme

Undergraduate students with arrears in final semester need not waste one academic year. They can clear their arrear papers in the same academic year to go for higher courses or jobs.

This scheme, announced by Madurai Kamaraj University, is welcome.

I suggest the same scheme may be extended by all other universities.

Sharp speed-breaker

About a fortnight back, a speed-breaker was put up right at the entrance of Athimarapatti Road leading to Tuticorin-Tiruchendur Main Road at Muthiahpuram point.

The upward curve of the speed-breaker is too sharp to negotiate for two and four wheeler riders and poses risks. I request authorities to do the needful.

D. Edwin Alexander,

Tuticorin.

Conversion of paddy fields

All paddy fields are converted into residential areas in Kanyakumari district. If the trend continues, there will not be any paddy field. One has to go to Thanjavur to see paddy field. Hence, officials must prevent conversion of paddy fields into residential areas.

V. Kumar,

Thekkurichy, Kanyakumari district.
