Dealers warned against hoarding fertilizer stocks

Special Correspondent

TIRUVANNAMALAI: Tiruvannamalai Collector M. Rajendran, who inspected the private fertilizer shops in Polur on Friday, warned the dealers against hoarding stocks. After inspecting the stock registers and the stock notice board, he told the dealers to supply adequate fertilizers to the farmers. Severe action would be taken against those who hoarded the stocks, he said.

Earlier, he inspected the ‘Uzhavar Sandhai’ (farmers market) in Polur and enquired the officials about the arrival of vegetables, bus facilities to farmers to bring their produce to the market and business in the market. He directed the officials to improve the market to ensure benefits both to farmers and customers.

Demand for bridge

Later, the Collector visited Thirisoor and saw the drip irrigation system being operated in a sugarcane field. The people of Thirisoor urged the Collector to construct a bridge across the Manjalar river for the benefit of school students who found it difficult to cross the river and reach their schools on the other side of the river. The bridge would also be of benefit to the public who had difficulty in reaching the Government Hospital in Polur in time during floods in the river, they told the Collector.

Mr. Rajendran directed the Executive Engineer of the Highways to prepare estimates for the construction of the bridge.

The Collector inspected the quality of the 15 group houses being constructed at a cost of Rs.55,000 each in Renderipattu. He also inspected the kutcha houses being upgraded at a cost of Rs.15,000 each and the work of widening and deepening of a tank in the village.

He then inspected the road being laid at a cost of Rs.3.4 lakh in Murugappadi and the work on the formation of an irrigation lake in Palvarthuvenran.
