Bellary
For civic amenities: Residents of various localities staging a demonstration in Bellary on Monday. BELLARY: Residents of various localities in Bellary city and Congress workers staged separate dharnas in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office protesting against the erratic supply of drinking water and lack of basic civic amenities. Over 100 residents from different areas, most of them women, staged a demonstration with empty pots in hand in protest against the lack of drinking water. They said they got water once in five days with the supply lasting less than 30 minutes. They also charged the person in charge of operating the valves with not discharging his duties properly and behaving rudely. The protesters blamed the councillor from their ward, Kumarswamy, for not taking steps to improve water supply and get the open drains and garbage cleared. “We regret electing Kumaraswamy,” the residents said in a memorandum submitted to the Municipal Commissioner.
