NEW DELHI: The Public Works Department, which is expected to operationalise six major infrastructure projects in the next few months, was on Monday directed by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to concentrate on projects related to the Commonwealth Games. Chairing a high-level meeting to review PWD projects, Ms. Dikshit directed the department to install uniform signboards on the roads. The meeting was informed that the PWD would commission six projects by the year-end. One project to be opened this month-end is the Geeta Colony bridge across the Yamuna. It has been constructed at a cost of over Rs.90 crore. The six-lane flyover at Mangolpuri is also to be commissioned this month. The underpass at ITO Chungi, for which diversion of traffic has started intermittently this past week, is to be completed by December and a road-over bridge at Level Crossing No.3 of the Delhi-Saharanpur rail line is to be commissioned in September. Another major project that would be completed by the MCD is the grade separator at Mukarba Chowk. It is likely to be operationalised in November this year. An underpass at Bhera Enclave is also scheduled to be commissioned in November.
