Check irregularities in admission Seek report from officials: CCC Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Consumer Cause (CCC) has appealed to the Chief Minister to ensure that checks are conducted at engineering colleges during the time of admissions to ensure that fee was collected as per the rates fixed by government. In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, the secretary of CCC, K. Kathirmathiyon, thanked the government for maintaining the yearly fee at Rs. 32,500 for 65 per cent students under the government quota. Even though the fee of Rs. 62,500 for students who joined under management quota seem to be on higher side, CCC said that it was the best possible option available to the government. The CCC also welcomed the government’s decision to give the option to the student to remit the college fee through banks. Last year, many colleges were able to collect more fees from the students. It wanted the government to control the irregularities in admission and fee collection. For the first time, surprise checks were conducted last year. Even though the desired result was not achieved, the effort of the government was appreciated by many parents. Definitely, the colleges which were collecting excess fees were not comfortable last year. The government had initated action against 35 engineering colleges. “From the list, we found that except three colleges in Hosur and Dharmapuri, no other college in the Western Tamil Nadu region was caught for such offences. The Anna University, Coimbatore, may be instructed to be more watchful. The government should also seek reports at regular intervals from the officials in the matter.
