ARIYALUR: A 20-acre site has been identified at Kavanoor, near Vilangudi, in Ariyalur district for establishing the new constituent college of Anna University–Tiruchi. Facilities have been readied at the Ariyalur Government Arts College for holding the first-year classes for a year, by the end of which the construction work will have been completed, Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology A. Raja said on Monday. A total of 240 students (60 each in civil, mechanical, electronics and communication engineering, and computer science and engin eering) would be admitted this academic year, as per the assurance made in the Assembly by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Sixteen appointments have been made. They include a professor and two assistant professors for each branch, Mr. Raja told presspersons after inspecting the facilities created in the new buildings constructed at a cost of Rs. 55 lakh. Facilities inspectedAccompanied by Collector R. Sudalaikannan and Vice-Chancellor V. Ramachandran, the Minister inspected the facilities created in the physics and chemistry laboratories and the progress made in the work on building a temporary workshop.
