Raising their voice: Leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi with Congress and other opposition MLAs demonstrating in Bhopal on Monday after the Assembly was adjourned over the issue of communal violence. BHOPAL: There were noisy scenes in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly on the opening day of the monsoon session on Monday with the opposition Congress accusing the BJP-led Government of fanning communal riots in Indore and spreading anarchy. In the midst of pandemonium, the House was adjourned twice. On Monday the members also paid glowing tributes to Field Marshal S.H.F.J Manekshaw, who led the Army to victory in the 1971 war, and the renowned Gandhian Nirmala Deshpande who died recently. The House was later adjourned for the day. The opposition members were particularly agitated over the arrest of former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, Opposition leader Jamuna Devi and other senior Congress leaders when they were protesting against the violent Vishwa Hindu Parishad-sponsored bandh in Bhopal and in Indore. It was alleged that their arrest was stage-managed to prevent them from attending the House. The opposition members led by the Congress also sat on protest near the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Assembly premises. The Congress members were joined by MLAs belonging to the Communist Party of India, Samajwadi Party and the Nationalist Congress Party. Some Congress workers were also arrested when they were protesting at the busy Roshanpura Square.
