Light and sound show at museum soon

Pradip Kumar Das

CUTTACK: Thanks to the Union Steel and Mines Ministry, the Netaji Subhash Birthplace National Museum here would soon have a light and sound show on Netaji’s childhood days. The Ministry has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 30 lakhs for the purpose and the facility would be in place within three months, informed the museum director Chandrabhanu Patel.

“Following an assurance from the Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, who visited the museum in March this year, we had submitted a proposal of Rs. 50 lakh to the Ministry. The Ministry has sanctioned Rs. 30 lakhs now and has assured to provide an additional fund, if required”, Patel said on Sunday when a team of SAIL officials from Rourkela Steel Plant came for an inspection of the museum.

The museum in charge J.P. Das informed that a state-of-the-art light and sound evening show would be a regular feature at the museum to attract the visitors. He said efforts are on to prepare a documentary of one-hour duration to show the childhood days of the legendary leader in Cuttack city.

The museum was set up here in 2003 when the Union Tourism Ministry realised that ‘birthplaces’ of all national leaders have been converted into museums by respective local trusts except for the leader of INA fame. The Ministry decided to renovate Janakinath Bhawan, the birthplace of the visionary leader to popularise his ideas, activities among the general public.

“The 125-year-old double-storied, 25 room ancestral home of Netaji spread over on 12 acres of land in Oriya Bazaar in the city, where Netaji was born on January 23, 1897, was converted into a national Museum.

The Indian National Trust for Art and Culture (INTACH) completed the renovation work conserving its originality in 2004.
