Kumbakonam Railway station is situated in a secluded corner of the town and cannot be reached by any town bus. Anyone desirous of going to the station can only reach the central bus stand and then take an auto to the station by paying up to Rs.25 and vice versa. Tiruchi station is also situated away from the main road but there all the town buses enter the station premises and then go to the bus stand or Srirangam. Same is the case with buses going to Tiruchi Collector’s office premises. Now, Kumbakonam town buses go to the central bus stand straight from CRC bus stop. Instead, from CRC bus stop they can go to the railway station premises and then go to the central bus stand, as they do in Tiruchi. This will be great boon to all railway passengers. Will the Managing Director, TNSTC, Kumbakonam consider this appeal favourably? TAMBRAS Krishnamurthy Kumbakonam Maintain properlyThe pay and use toilets and the other toilets in the new bus stand in Thanjavur town are not being properly maintained. Commuters hesitate to go inside these toilets because of the poor maintenance. Most of the commuters misuse the open space surrounding the toilets and the bus stand for answering nature’s call. I request the Thanjavur Municipality to take immediate steps for the proper maintenance of the toilets. T. Ravi Shankar Thanjavur Extend train to NagoreWith regular train services set to resume on the new BG line between Tiruvarur and Nagore, the people of Nagore are expecting direct connections to western Tamil Nadu and Kerala. To fulfil this demand the Ernakulam-Tiruchi Tea Garden Express can be extended to Nagore with the swapping of its present up and down timings. This will serve pilgrims from Kerala, Coimbatore and Erode visiting Velankanni and Nagore. Also this will serve as a good overnight train for the people of both the states. Patronage will definitely surge if this extension is made. Hope the Railway authorities will do the needful. Sriram Kumar. M Tiruchi Provide night train shuttles
In the absence of a direct Railway link to Chennai we are suffering a lot. We have to take circuitous route via Tiruchi. The only available train to us is Rockfort Express which is always crowded. Reservation even before three months is not easy to get. To catch any other train at Tiruchi, there is no connecting service here. After 7.30 p.m., think the position of the old and sick who cannot travel by bus. Will the Railway administration come to the rescue and provide adequate night train service between Mayiladuthurai and Tiruchi in the near future. Gurunathan Kumbakonam Unbearable indifference
The Electricity Minister, Arcot N. Veerasamy has been emphasising that there would not be any power cut. But the situation is quite different. Here in Sriram Nagar, Tiruvaiyaru, power cut in the name of load shedding is done daily from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and again from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. On June 28 as usual supply was cut from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. we thought from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be no power cut. But the E.B. cut the supply from 9.20 a.m. to 5.20 p.m. It may be for monthly maintenance work. At least on the day of maintenance they could have avoided the daily shedding. This shows the indifferent attitude of the E.B. to the hardships of the consumers. J. Santhanam Tiruvaiyaru IIMr. Arcot N.Veerasamy, Electricity Minister, often comes out with statement that there was no power cut in the State. But in Ammapet town, Thanjavur district we suffer for four hours every day due to power trips. Will the authorities look into the matter? S. Vijayakumar
Ammapet Ban use of cell phones in librariesI happened to visit Thanjavur Central Public Library recently, where I found many readers keep on talking on cell phones loudly without bothering about other readers. Some of them were arguing loudly with each other causing much nuisance to others. People prefer to go through books in a library in a calm atmosphere. I request the library authorities to ban using of mobile phones inside the library. Chitra Sabesan Tiruvaiyaru Devise correct mechanism
I have locked my BSNL telephone using secret dynamic lock number. A few days back, when I checked with the telephone department to confirm, to my surprise and shock I found that the telephone was open. I was told that somebody would have opened the phone in the household itself. Once again I locked the telephone with another secret code number. Again when I recently checked my telephone, I found that the dynamic lock is open. The Tiruthuraipoondi telephone exchange people informed me that the dynamic lock would get automatically opened during the re-scheduling operation. This is quite shocking. When the innocent subscriber thinks that his telephone is locked, there is every chance that his telephone is misused by some unscrupulous elements. When the dynamic lock automatically gets opened without the knowledge of the subscriber, then there must be some devise that automatic lock is restored, or else the department should inform the concerned subscribers to relock the phone. R. Jambunathan Tiruthuraipoondi Operate from separate buildingOn seeing the quick restoration of the Post Box in LIC colony I wish to bring to the notice of the Senior Superintendent of Posts to place the missing Post Box in the Lakshmi Seeval bus stop which will benefit both the LIC Colony and the Co-operative Colony people. I would also remind the postal authorities, to operate a separate building for the Rajappa Nagar Post Office to function once again for our convenience there. R. Dakshina Murthy Thanjavur Improve efficiency
The Central Government can consider granting of more licences to private couriers, since the efficiency of the postal delivery system in the country has deteriorated much. Therefore the department should closely monitor the delivery of letters to save their reputed image. K. Santhanam Kumbakonam
