Nostalgic ride: Nearly 50 proud owners of vintage bikes will start a rally from Cubbon Park on July 13. Bangalore: If the vroom of a Jawa or a Yezdi gives you a dizzy high that can find no match, Cubbon Park is where you should be on July 13. It will be the venue of the sixth International Jawa-CZ-Yezdi Day where nearly 50 proud owners of these vintage bikes will start a rally. The rally will be flagged off at the Victoria Statue in Cubbon Park at 7 a.m. They will ride along M.G. Road, Brigade Road, Richmond Circle Flyover, Lalbagh, J.C. Road, Mysore Road, and will finally reach the Cafe Coffee Day at Channapatna. Then they will ride back to Bangalore. The Jawa, CZ and Yezdi bikes were first produced by Ideal Jawa (India) Limited, which is based in Mysore. They came in many variants such as Roadking, Monarch, Classic and Colt. They quickly became synonymous with the youth culture and became trend-setters. They ruled the Indian roads in the ’70s and the ’80s. The catch phrase for the bikes sold by the company was “Forever bike forever value.” Although the production was stopped in 1996 when the Ideal Jawa company was closed down, there are many people passionate about these bikes and preserve them with utmost care. There are Jawa and Yezdi clubs in India and other parts of the world. Sam, one of the organisers of the event in Bangalore, says: “What I love about the bike is the road grip, top speed, design and the sheer feel of the bike.” He calls them “roadster bikes”. Speaking about the event, Amrit Appaiah, another organiser, who owns one Jawa and two Yezdi bikes, says: “This rally is held in many countries worldwide and we want to organise it here to celebrate the Yezdi and Jawa bikes in India, as they bring a sense of nostalgia to us every time we ride.” For registration, call 9880105455 or 988033994.
