Police claim denied

CHENNAI: In response to the new item “Man absconding with cash” published in these columns on July 7, R. Mukundan, advocate of P. Marimuthu, said that there were no summons, notice or warrant pending against Mr.Marimuthu.

Denying that Mr.Marimuthu was absconding, he said his client had not swindled money from the partnership firm. There was also no pact to share profit through a common account, he added.

The police had come to Mr. Marimuthu’s residence on July 5, 2008, at 6 a.m and held discussions with him and thereafter with his representatives. His counsel offered all cooperation to the investigating officer and explained about the dispute and handed over the documents relating to a civil case pending before the Madras High Court.

“The High Court had appointed a chartered accountant to take over the assets of the firm and verify its accounts. After verifying, a detailed report on the accounts was submitted in August 2007. Mr. Marimuthu had submitted the accounts, including the transactions of the alleged proprietary bank accounts to the court-appointed chartered accountant and the same have also been verified.

There has been no swindling of funds, as reported, and all the funds have been accounted for before the court-appointed auditor and forms part of the outcome of the suit,” Mr.Mukundan added.
