friends: IUML State president Panakkad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal (right) greeting PDP chairman Abdul Nasir Maudany when the latter called on him at his house at Panakkad, near Malappuram, on Monday. MALAPPURAM: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairman Abdul Nasir Maudany visited Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) president of Kerala Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal at his Kodappanakkal house at Panakkad near here on Monday. Both Muslim leaders held talks in a warm atmosphere. Mr. Maudany told reporters after the talks that there was no snow between the PDP and the IUML to thaw. He said Shihab Thangal had always said things that benefited society. Mr. Maudany’s visit to Panakkad assumed political significance as the PDP’s drifting away from the United Democratic Front (UDF) had considerably discomfited the IUML. The PDP leader met the IUML leader after visiting the family of Syed Umerali Shihab Thangal, the Wakf Board chairman who died last week. Mr. Maudany visited the Thangal’s grave and prayed there. He was welcomed by Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal, IUML district president; Sayed Saidqali Shihab Thangal, former Muslim Youth League president; K.P.A. Majeed, IUML district general secretary; and the children of Mohammedali and Umerali Shihab Thangals. Mr. Maudany was accompanied by PDP district secretary U. Kunhimohammed, district president P.A. Salam, State secretariat member Ibrahim Tirurangadi and district treasurer Salam Munniyoor.
