Police crack quadruple murder mystery

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: It was a gatekeeper of the Railways, Fateh Mohammed, who had masterminded the killing of four members of a family hailing from Nizamabad, the Cyberabad police said on Monday.

Mohammed and a couple - Mohd. Hussain and Zulekha Bee – who aided and abetted him in executing the killing, were arrested on Monday for the sensational quadruple homicide reported on June 26. Burnt bodies of the victims, Balavva, her two sons Satyanarayana and Srinivas and daughter Padma, were found lying at a secluded place near Medchal railway station on June 26.

First clue

The first clue came when the victims were identified based on their photographs published in newspapers. Police found that they hailed from Sadashivanagar of Nizamabad district.

On a tip-off that they used to regularly meet Mohammed, the Special Operations Team of Cyberabad police led by Inspector P. Radha Kishan Rao picked him up. Balavva’s husband Ramulu used to work in Railways as gang-man but suddenly fell sick due to paralysis three years ago. Mohammed, who used to work at Rajampet in Nizamabad, knew Ramulu’s family and collected Rs. 80,000 from Balavva assuring to secure permanent job for Srinivas and attender jobs for the other three in the Railways. As the promises did not materialise, Balavva started pressurising him to return the money.

“That was when he decided to kill them and sought assistance of the couple,” the police said. In the name of introducing to the Railway officials, they lured the four victims to Medchal. After arriving there, he told them that a Tata Sumo would come to pick them up and sent Satyanarayana to get 10 litres of diesel. He brought 10 litres of toddy in another can. Mohammed was in the habit of taking sleeping pills now and then. He powdered some of the pills and made four packets. “He convinced the four victims that Railway officials would conduct eye test and consuming the powder would improve their eye condition,” the police said.

Believing in his words, the four victims consumed toddy and fell asleep. Then the trio allegedly doused diesel and set them afire and fled the spot.
