Karzai calls up Manmohan

Sapporo (Japan): Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Monday night called up Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and conveyed his condolences over the loss of lives in the suicide bomb attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul.

In the telephonic conversation, Dr. Singh told Mr. Karzai that India lost some of its precious officers. This would not deter India from continuing its reconstruction and rehabilitation work in Afghanistan. Dr. Singh reiterated the bilateral commitment to fight terrorism. He asked Mr. Karzai to step up security for Indian diplomats.

Dr. Singh also condoled the Afghans killed. He spoke to Indian Ambassador Jayant Prasad and told him that the country was behind the Indian mission. — PTI
