Ghulam Nabi Azad resigns
Shujaat Bukhari
SRINAGAR: Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday resigned as Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister after withdrawing his confidence motion at a special session of the Assembly.
The State is set to be under Governor’s rule as no party is ready to stake claim to form a government in view of the Assembly elections in October. With this, the Congress-People’s Democratic Party coalition rule has come to an end.
Governor N.N. Vohra had asked Mr. Azad to prove his majority on the floor of the House following the withdrawal of support by the PDP on June 28.
Though Congress leaders were confident that Mr. Azad would sail through, sensing trouble, he preferred to resign.
