Welcome showers: Delhiites were greeted by much-needed rain on Monday.

NEW DELHI: The new week began on a cheerful note for the Capital as the monsoon rain finally came down in all its glory on Monday, bringing much needed relief from the energy-sapping humidity.

The Indian Meteorological Department recorded 27.1 mm of rain and the maximum temperature dropped three degrees below normal to settle at a comfortable 33.4 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature too fell two degrees below normal to stay at 26.1 degrees.

PR executive Pooja Singh, who was thoroughly drenched in the rain, said: “I got caught in the rain just as I was exiting from the Patel Chowk Metro rail station. Usually it takes me five minutes to reach office from there. Even though I hailed an auto-rickshaw to reach office, I got thoroughly drenched.”

Rainy spell to continue

Going by the weatherman, the rainy spell is expected to continue in the coming days. A generally cloudy sky with possibility of one or two spells of rain or thundershowers has been forecast for Tuesday.
