Two arrested for killing taxi driver

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Two young men who allegedly abducted a cab driver in his taxi this May, murdered him and took away the vehicle after dumping his body in Uttar Pradesh, have been arrested by the South Delhi police. The accused had sold the vehicle to a Bhojpuri singer.

Satish, a taxi driver, went missing after he left for a trip to Firozabad in UP on May 26. His grandfather Radhey Shyam lodged a complaint with the Jamia Nagar police here on June 1 raising suspicion that he had been abducted. Radhey Shyam said Satish’s vehicle had been hired by Seshbir for Firozabad and he was supposed to return the next day, but he never did.

During investigations, the police identified the suspects as Seshbir and Bharat Singh, both residents of Mainpuri in U.P. and arrested them at Mau in U.P. on July 3. A local court granted the police the duo’s four-day transit remand. During interrogation, they purportedly disclosed that they initially took Satish to Mainpuri. On their way to Varanasi, the accused overpowered Satish and strangled him. They then dumped the body in the fields along the highway between Kanpur and Allahabad.
