A could-have-been thriller

Kanichukulangarayil CBI

The film, directed by Suresh Vinu, turns out to be an unimpressive reproduction of the real life murder case which created waves in the State last year. Scripted by Hari Kumaran Thampy, it revolves around the hunt for the two suspects by a couple of police officers. As the investigation proceeds, the element of suspense is lost. Further, a feeble attempt is made to prop up the film through two real life characters, making brief appearances. One of them is a godman called Ramesh Madhavan and the other a tantri involved in a sex scandal.

Ajith (Saikumar) and Suresh (Meghnad), who run a flourishing chit business, Anamala Chitties, are out to make money by hook or crook. They even finish off a depositor to grab his money. Upset by their style of functioning, their manager Ratheesh (Saddique) resigns and starts a chit firm of his own. Anamala’s lawyer Rahim (Kollam Thulasi) also joins him. Many of Anamala’s customers shift their deposits to Ratheesh’s firm. Ajith and Suresh hire goons, who drive a lorry into Ratheesh’s car killing him on the spot. Though dismissed initially as a road accident, lawyer Rahim discloses at a press meet that Ratheesh was killed by Ajith and Suresh.

The duo goes into hiding. Enter the CBI police officer Arjun (Manoj K. Jayan) and the State police inspector James George (Suresh Krishna) to sniff out the culprits.

The cast includes Rajan P. Dev, T.P. Madhavan, Lakshmi Sharma, Darsan and Gayatri. M.D. Sukumaran cranks the camera.

The film is produced by Sreekumar Thampy for Himalaya Productions.
