CUTTACK: Even as the Sundargarh district administration has announced several welfare measures for Shankar Singh and his family, a Cuttack-based social organisation has taken up cudgels to fight for the Rourkela boy who lost a hand and a leg after being pushed off a running train by a ticket collector. The Centre for Legal Aid to Poor (CLAP) has submitted a memorandum to the Railway Minister demanding a compensation of Rs. 10 lakhs to the boy and to make immediate arrangement to airlift him to a well-equipped hospital for an improved treatment. CLAP executive president Bikash Das on Tuesday faxed the memorandum to Railway Minister Lalu Prasad asking the latter to condemn the action of the TTE by making a public statement. Calling for initiation of criminal proceedings against the errant TTE, the memorandum urged the Minister to direct its standing counsels not to appear in the court defending the ticket collector Navneet Mishra who has been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days after his arrest last week. A native of UP, Mishra had allegedly pushed Shankar from Geetanjali Express on July 2 for the 13-year-old boy failed to pay a fine of Rs. 50.
