More than 100 days work for about 1.5 lakh wage seekers this year Rs. 93.26 crore spent so far by creating 90 lakh person days ANANTAPUR: Wage employment works under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) were not stopped in the district and 83 types of wage work was being provided to the wage seekers on demand, Project Director of District Water Management Agency G. Gopal stated here on Tuesday. Only eight types of works, measurement of which would be difficult in the season were kept aside. They were also preparing village-wise wage employment works calendar so that both the wage seekers and the scheme functionaries could have better understanding on what to do and what not during specific periods. Of the 38,100 works taken up under the scheme during the current year (2008-09), about 7,000 were completed. An amount of Rs. 93.26 crore was spent so far by creating 90 lakh person days this year, he explained. Works like horticulture with 100 per cent subsidy, community plantation in villages, plantation on barren hillocks, plantation in tank lands, block plantation, creation of farm ponds, repairs to weirs, sluices and bunds of tanks, culverts, check wall, compost pits, land development under CLDP, contour canals, contour pits and others would be taken up in the agriculture season, he explained. In all, 8,134 wage seekers had completed more than 100 days work during the last three months it was being planned to provide more than 100 days work to about 1.5 lakh wage seekers this year.
