Man held for help’s murder

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A young man has been arrested for allegedly killing a 19-year-old domestic help whose body was found in the house of her employer at Ashok Vihar here over the weekend. The accused had allegedly tried to criminally assault the victim.

Jimmy, a native of Jharkhand, was found dead with blood oozing from her mouth and nose by Ram, another servant of her employer G.K. Gupta, and a security guard. Preliminary investigations suggested that she had been strangled. Enquiries revealed that one Mani Kamat, who had been staying in a neighbouring building under construction, had gone missing. Suspecting his involvement, the police launched a hunt for him and arrested him at Adarsh Nagar railway station. During interrogation, Mani purportedly confessed to having murdered Jimmy.

According to the police, he said that he tried to criminally assault the woman at which she raised an alarm. Afraid of getting caught, Mani allegedly strangled her and fled.
